National Hockey Now Hiring Experienced Hockey Writers

Published

on

The National Hockey Now network is hiring writers. We’re looking for beat writers with experience covering a team, bloggers, and digital content writers. The growth of NHN has been brisk, and the workload is outpacing our current staff.

So, we need you. Pay is based on the gig. Some gigs will be hourly, some will be freelance, and our beat positions could have healthy guarantees with ownership options. We’re looking for writers who can engage an audience, talk hockey, know their team, and deliver consistent and clean content with minimal supervision.

The ability to write about a player shaving his mustache or whiffing on the power play will set you apart. Being able to spin a quick transaction or press release into a 300-word story (or more) will be a big bonus.

Qualifications:

*Some experience is preferred. (Newspapers, websites, independent media, blogs, student papers)

*Must know your team. Living in that city is not required, but writing objectively when necessary is a big help.

*Knowledge of AP style or ability to adapt style to AP (Present continuous tense is a killer)

*Active on social media with standard ability to Tweet all stories and upload videos to YouTube and Facebook

*Resourceful, creative, and love hockey.

How to Apply:

Send samples (links are best), to Dan Kingerski at press@nationalhockeynow.com

We’ll try to get back to everyone who applies, but forgive us if the volume is too great.

Talk soon!
